58 West Hastings (58WH) will be a 10-storey innovative health and social housing project in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
It will provide 231 affordable housing units, a 50,000-sqft integrated health centre, and skill-building programs and resources. The project brings together all three levels of government, partner organizations of various sectors, and renowned Canadian artists.
ART GIVES BACK
Inspired by the innovative project, Angela Grossmann and Martha Sturdy spearheaded conversations amongst Vancouver’s community of artists who have lived, worked, and studied in the neighbourhood.
The result is the 58WH Art Project, featuring seven internationally-renowned Canadian artists.
The impressive collection of generously donated artworks were auctioned on November 9th at the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation Autumn Gala in support of the project.
In addition to fundraising for the project, the artists will also provide reproductions of each donated work of art to be translated into the design of the building.
