58 West Hastings

58 West Hastings is an innovative social housing project in the Downtown Eastside that will provide 231 new homes alongside a 50,000 square foot integrated health centre serving the entire community.

The 10-storey building is a unique project that brings together all levels of government in partnership with a charitable foundation to create a new standard of community-oriented social housing in Vancouver. With funding from BC Housing, CMHC, and proceeds of a $30-million fundraising campaign by the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, the project broke ground in July 2021 and is slated for completion in Spring 2024.

Streetohome is encouraged to see the development of mixed-income housing at 58 West Hastings. Combining rent-geared-to-income housing with shelter-rate housing promotes financial viability, community inclusion, and improved social outcomes including quality of life and economic prospects of lower income households.
